Challenges and Pathways

Practicing Principled Innovation isn’t easy. These are some of the challenges being addressed by PI practitioners across ASU.

Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts

ASU is a big institution. How do we make the Atlas project broadly visible to those who would benefit from it? Our solution is to share this work digitally, but we know that after it takes residence online, the next step will be to follow up with ways of making its presence significantly visible in a sea of information. This also raises questions about who is responsible for the continued maintenance of the information over time, to ensure the information remains accurate, true, relevant and useful.

  • ASU Preparatory Academy

Implementing a flexible learning model like Family Choice Fridays runs up against traditional attendance policies and requirements for seat time, which are still used to measure student engagement and funding. We work to ensure our program remains compliant with state and district regulations while advocating for policy updates that acknowledge diverse, modern learning experiences.

  • Dreamscape Learn

One challenge we experience is bringing between scientific principles, storytelling, curriculum development, and PI-specific reflection opportunities together in engaging and cohesive ways. This is what makes this project so impactful, but it is also very difficult work, especially when two of these elements are not typically found in higher education. We seek input from PI partners at and beyond ASU who have conducted projects using a similar multidisciplinary approach.
