Global Futures Laboratory

Ernesto L. Abeytia is a poet, teacher and higher education professional dedicated to advancing university-wide research, scholarship, and initiatives focused on Responsible and Sustainable Innovation. As part of Arizona State University’s Global Futures Laboratory (GFL), he collaborates with key leaders like Dave Guston, Michelle Schwartz and Ann Marie Hess to establish best practices, enhance capacity and drive awareness for sustainability-focused research. He also supports faculty and staff across GFL in developing competitive projects aligned with ASU’s Design Aspirations, particularly “Conducting Use-Inspired Research” and “Practicing Principled Innovation.”

In his role as ASU’s co-designee to the Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT-UN), Ernesto promotes the use of technology to serve the public good. As the Principled Innovation Catalyst for the College of Global Futures, he guides the integration of ethical and innovative practices across CGF’s four schools. His commitment to leadership excellence is rooted in his experience teaching and mentoring students at institutions such as ASU, Saint Louis University, Binghamton University, and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

A strong advocate for inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (I.D.E.A.), Ernesto strives to foster inclusive environments where innovation and diverse perspectives thrive. With a passion for lifelong learning, he is committed to equipping teams to address complex challenges while empowering individuals to realize their full potential.
