Barrett, The Honors College

Laura Jakubczak is the Assistant Dean, Teaching Professor, and Honors Faculty Fellow at Barrett, the Honors College at ASU, where she has worked since 2006.

In her administrative capacity, she works to connect students with research and community service projects throughout ASU, communicates with the larger university about Barrett’s signature honors offerings like specialty classes and honors contracts, and helps develop innovative ways for students to complete their honors thesis. She also works with the dedicated faculty at Barrett to develop research and service projects that benefit the college.

In terms of research, she specializes in the archaeology and paleoecology of Eurasia, especially Russia and Uzbekistan She is affiliated with the School of Human Evolution and Social Change; the Melikian Center of Russian, Eurasian, and Eastern European Studies; and is a Senior Global Futures Scholar associated with the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Future Laboratory.

In terms of teaching, Dr. Jakubczak teaches the “The Human Event” and “The History of Ideas” to incoming Barrett students. She also directs a year-long thesis pathway course called Global Citizen that draws upon the global expertise regularly available at ASU to help students develop an understanding of how they can be more global in their thinking as they pursue their future path. She also offers one credit upper division honors courses on a variety of topics like The Archaeology of Middle Earth, Desert Landscapes and Community Science, and the Short Stories of Ursula K. Le Guin.
