Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering

My involvement with Principled Innovation (PI) comes from its connection to the Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) values, particularly “delivering innovation that matters.” PI helps us think critically about what truly matters and encourages thoughtful decision-making through reflexivity. It also ties closely to my research, which focuses on intentional ways of thinking—like systems thinking and values thinking—and how these can transform engineering education. As a PI Catalyst in FSE, I am engaged in initiatives aimed at laying the foundation for institutional change. Some of the projects include PI research and teaching fellowships, which aim to make research more impactful and bring principled thinking into engineering courses. I also host Lunch and Learn sessions to involve colleagues and other stakeholders in these conversations. My goal is to help others reflect on how values thinking could shape our work and outcomes. Through PI practices, I hope to drive meaningful change to tackle complex challenges in engineering education.
